Pet Checkups & Wellness Exams
The Importance of Preventive Care
Routine pet checkups are key to helping your pet maintain their health over the course of their lives.
When combined with an up-to-date schedule of vaccinations and parasite prevention as well as proper nutrition, the pet checkups performed by our vets serve as your dog or cat's best chance for lifelong good health.
When you bring in your cat or dog for their routine checkup, we are able to prevent many health issues from ever arising in your pet and catch emerging conditions in their earliest stages when most effectively treated.
What to Expect During Your Pet's Checkup
Our vets will provide your dog or cat with a comprehensive physical checkup in order to gain insight into your pet's overall health. A physical exam from one of our vets includes the following elements:
General Condition
Your pet's demeanor and their physical condition can provide indications of their overall health. The way your pet stands and walks, their weight for their size and their degree of alertness can all give our vets vital information about your pet's health.
Coat & Skin
We will check your pet's skin and coat for signs of problems, including excessive oiliness or dryness, lumps, bumps, dandruff or abnormal hair loss or shedding.
Face & Head
Your pet's nose, eyes, ears and mouth will all be checked for abnormalities such as discharge. We will also take special care to check your pet's mouth for signs of emerging oral health issues such as gum disease or tooth decay.
Internal Health
Your pet's blood pressure, heart rate and rhythm and their pulse are all key clues to their heart's health. We will test each of these to ensure they are normal. We will also examine your pet's lungs for signs of abnormal breathing.
Lymph nodes will be checked for pain or swelling, and we will also examine the abdomen to ensure the intestines, kidneys, bladder, spleen, liver and stomach all feel normal, and that your pet is not exhibiting any signs of discomfort.
Puppies & Kittens
Kittens and puppies require proper medical attention throughout their first few weeks of life in order to start off on the right foot.
We will provide your new four-legged family member with a comprehensive physical checkup, appropriate vaccinations and deworming treatments. You will also be provided with a package of information and samples to help you care for your new pet.
Please never hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns you may have about caring for your new pet, both at your appointments or following your visits.
Once your pet's initial appointment is complete, you'll return periodically for his or her required booster shots.
Seniors
With recent advances in veterinary medicine and nutrition, our pets are living longer now than they ever have before.
As your cat or dog ages, we encourage you to bring them in for regular physical checkups more frequently in order to ensure your senior pet remains healthy throughout their golden years.
In addition to the routine wellness procedures we perform on all adult pets, we will give special attention to your senior pet's potential age-related conditions, such as arthritis or decreased vision. Additional laboratory tests will also provide information about your pet's overall health.
Vaccinations & Prevention
While conducting your dog or cat's physical checkup, our vets will also check to see if they require preventative care and if they are due for any routine vaccinations.
